How to clean pet teeth?

We have done a lot of work to ensure that our pets are fed, hydrated, vaccinated, safe and happy. But pet owners often neglect dental hygiene. According to a 2016 study by a pet hospital, 76% of dogs and 68% of cats have periodontal disease. So, how to clean your pet's teeth? The following is a super simple method.

1. Planned cleaning

Like people, animals should go to the dentist every year. Even young dogs and cats can develop periodontal disease, so the sooner you go to the veterinarian for dental examination, the better.

2. Smell their breath

Bad breath is a big clue. If there is any, it means that your pet's mouth has a problem. Unfortunately, if their breath is full of bad breath, they probably have some bacteria brewing there. Nevertheless, being aware of any changes in breathing means keeping your pet healthy and preventing the disease from getting worse.

3. Let them open their mouths

Although there may not be any signs of periodontal disease, it is best to check whether the gums are inflamed or the roots bleed. Repeat this simple action to familiarize your pet with putting your hand on their mouth, so that it will not be so hard to brush their teeth in the future.

4. Understand their unique risks

Small breeds like dogs often have overcrowding in their mouths because they do not shed their young teeth as effectively as larger breeds. This means that plaque and tartar build up faster and thicker.

Cats are particularly susceptible to tooth absorption and stomatitis. Tooth absorption is the process that the gums of cats begin to grow on the teeth or the teeth form holes near the gum line. Stomatitis is characterized by inflammation or ulceration in the gums.

All pets will develop serious chronic kidney disease and liver problems if they fail to grasp and handle the tooth problems. If you notice pain or drastic changes in your pet's behavior while eating, please go to the pet hospital to check whether there is any internal situation.
