A pet oxygen cylinder is a closed-loop oxygen supply device specifically designed for animals, primarily used to help pets with breathing difficulties or cardiopulmonary diseases maintain blood oxygen saturation. Its core function is to continuously deliver a high concentration of oxygen to improve tissue hypoxia and support stable vital signs. Oxygen cylinders are typically made of transparent acrylic material for easy observation of the pet's condition and are equipped with an air inlet, outlet, humidity control, and a safety pressure relief valve. A medical-grade oxygen source is connected to the cylinder via tubing, and the oxygen flow rate is precisely controlled by a flow meter, generally maintained at 1–5 liters per minute, with specific values adjusted according to veterinary guidance.
This device is widely used in the adjunctive treatment of common pets such as dogs and cats in situations such as postoperative recovery, acute respiratory infections, poisoning, heart attacks, or altitude sickness. Studies have shown that timely oxygen supply can significantly improve survival rates when blood oxygen saturation is below 90%. In dogs with severe pneumonia, the average time to clinical symptom relief was shortened by more than 30% after receiving oxygen therapy. Because the enclosed environment can maintain a stable oxygen concentration (usually 40%–60%), oxygen chambers cause less stress to pets and result in higher compliance compared to oxygen supply methods such as face masks or nasal cannulas.
